    Roof & Gutter Requirements

    • Suitable for use with:
      • Standard pitched roofs with or without gutters
      • Standard roofing materials including shingle, shake, rubber, wood, metal and most plastic roofs
      • Gutters and downspouts made from standard materials including metals and most plastics
    • Not suitable for use with:
      • Flat roofs
      • Slate, stone, ceramic, tar and gravel roofs
    • Electrical Requirements:
      • GFCI protected outlet
      • Electrical source located within 30″ of the heating cable starting point on the roof
      • Protected from the inclement weather
    • Use of an extension cord is not recommended, but if an extension cord is needed, call your local electrical inspection agency for a recommendation on the proper outdoor-safe extension cord.

    • Use the equation and table below to calculate the length of heating cable required for your roof:

    Cable Required for Roof = (R x M) + G + D

    (R) Roof edge length (ft) (i.e. length of roof line to protect)

    (M) Multiplier from table below

    (G) + Total gutter length (ft)

    (D) Downspout length (X2 if heating cable returns bath through the downspout to continue along the gutter

     

    Note: If less than the standard SpeedTrace Roof and Gutter Kit lengths, round up to the nearest cable size.
